Urgent action is needed to preserve biodiversity and well-functioning ecosystems. Both have been declining at an alarming rate recent years, mainly due to human activities such as land use changes, pollution and climate change.
At NNE, we focus on the selection of materials for construction and pharma manufacturing when reducing biodiversity impacts. These off-site biodiversity impacts exceed on-site impacts by an order of magnitude.
Our ability to reduce biodiversity and ecosystem damage lies in improving traceability of material supply chains and selecting the materials with the lowest possible impacts. Reducing the use of virgin materials by applying circular economy thinking is also a pathway. We are currently developing our biodiversity methodology inspired by our carbon footprint estimator.
